Emerging data indicates the impact of the cost of living crisis is a major issue for employers and employees. A recent survey of over 3,000 therapists shows that 66% saw the public’s mental health deteriorate over the last year, and nearly 94% attributed this to their financial concerns and the cost of living. Many people across the UK are feeling anxious, stressed and hopeless due to their current financial situation. This has a direct impact on their physical and emotional health with 30% of adults in the UK experiencing poorer quality of sleep, 23% meeting with friends less often, 15% pursuing a hobby less often and 12% exercising less often.
While organisations are also feeling the financial burden, it’s important to have comprehensive support systems in place to support the wellbeing and mental health of their people.
Research has proven time and time again that workplace counselling can support employees who are struggling. Counselling can support issues relating to the cost of living crisis by providing a safe space to talk through your worries, provide coping strategies and stress management techniques. Workplace counselling can also halve sickness absence in organisations, and employees who have access to mental health services return to work sooner, are more resilient, more productive and less likely to become long-term sick.
