Updated EHCR guidance supporting schools with sexual harassment in the workplace
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has recently released its technical guidance >> on sexual harassment in light of the new duty on employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace (Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023).
The technical guidance aims to assist employers in understanding their legal responsibilities concerning harassment and victimisation by outlining the necessary measures they should implement to prevent such issues in the workplace. The updated version now specifically outlines the scope of the Preventative Duty and what actions employers should be taking to comply with their legal obligations.
The guidance does offers Schools some examples of reasonable steps employers can take, such as updating policies, carrying out risk assessments, training and ensuring the school has a good reporting system in place.
