The Home Office announced new measures on Thursday 16 January to reduce the reliance of the migration and borders system on taxpayer funding. These new measures include the government’s intention to raise fees on selected immigration products and services at the earliest opportunity.

The government has conducted a review of their fees and set out its intention to increase fees on range of immigration and nationality products and services, including the Certificate of Sponsorship on work routes which is set to rise to £525 from £239.

The legislation laid on 16 January will now be debated in Parliament and is subject to approval by both Houses. If it is approved, the proposed new fees will be introduced by amending separate legislation, the Immigration and Nationality (Fees) Regulations 2018, as soon as Parliamentary time allows.
