Did you know that the HR Connect portal contains a library of more than 60 job profiles for the support staff roles most commonly found in Schools and Academies?

All the roles within the Job Description Library >> have been evaluated previously and assigned a Kent Scheme grade.

Each role profile contains an outline of the nature and level of accountabilities typically found within a role at that particular Kent Scheme grade.  These are not a definitive list of tasks – and Schools /Academies are advised to adapt and amend these generic profiles to create a job description which reflects the specific duties and responsibilities expected of a postholder within their own setting.

Schools may also choose to develop a task list complementing the broader accountabilities set out in the job description to provide complete clarity as to the tasks / standards required – such as a task schedule for a cleaner.

Each job profile is accompanied by a person specification outlining the typical attributes required of the postholder in terms of qualifications, experience, skills and abilities and knowledge. Again Schools may wish to amend this specification to reflect the specific requirements of the job role.

It is good practice to review an individual’s job description, person specification and any accompanying task list at regular intervals to ensure these documents accurately reflect the role as it is actually worked.

Where a School amends the generic job profile and person specification, providing there are no significant material changes and the broad level of accountability remains the same, there should be no impact on the recommended grade.

Schools / Academies are responsible to determining the appropriate grade for any post however HR Connect offers a benchmarking service to support schools making an assessment.  There is no requirement for all roles to be benchmarked as a matter of course – however where a School significantly amends a generic role profile or creates a new role which is not part of our existing library or where the accountabilities of a role undertaken by an existing postholder significantly change - you may wish to seek our guidance and request a benchmarking assessment.
