The education landscape is ever changing and now ’more than ever before, children arrive at school with significant needs that require attention before learning can take place’ ( ‘Teaching:the new reality’ Education Support 2023).
A whole school approach is needed
Many educators are seeing an increase in additional responsibilities that include offering emotional support to pupils and colleagues. However, according to the ‘Teaching:the new reality’ report 34% of teachers and education staff do not feel prepared to offer emotional support to staff or colleagues, 39% are not prepared for supporting vulnerable pupils and their families and 71% of all staff are emotionally exhausted.
These statistics demonstrate the growing need for a whole school support system based around proactive early intervention and accessing professional support. Your pupils and colleagues shouldn’t wait for things to build up. Early intervention can offer children the support needed to reach their full potential, reduce risk factors, increase protective factors and improve future outcomes when it comes to positive health and wellbeing.
